Side Tripping to Florida State Park's

What a busy fall and winter I have had!  I got to go on several "side trips"  to some of our wonderful Florida State Parks.   On the first two trips I was escorted by PR Chuk Demarsh.  We went to Honeymoon Island and Fakahatchee Stand.  Honeymoon Island located at  Dunedin FL is one of my favorite stops.  Originally the pioneers called it Hog Island, but it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 palm - thatched bungalows for honeymooners.

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park, "the Amazon of North America". The Fakahatchee Strand located in Copeland FL. is a linear swamp forest, approximately twenty miles long by five miles wide and oriented from north to south. It has been sculpted by the movement of water for thousands of years and clean fresh water is the key to its existence.

I also got to visit San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park.  I was not incognito there we were actually visiting the Big Bend area but that is a whole other story. San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park is located in St. Marks, off State Road 363, on Old Fort Road. The history of this National Landmark began in 1528 when Panfilo de Narvaez arrived in the area with 300 men; however, the first fort was not built until 1679. Andrew Jackson occupied the fort for a brief time in the early 1800s.

Here are some of the things that I got to see and do while visiting.
