Thought for the day

"Lucy, I'm home"

Today's post is all about my best girlfriend, Lucy.  When I go to visit her, I knock, and say "Lucy, I'm home."  I can hear her on the other side of the door.  Once I'm inside, she heads for the kitchen rug and waits for her treat. So, Lucy, girl, here's to you...

Lucy has this great pig.  His name is Bruce.  She has managed to rip off most of his face.

Well now it appears there is a Bruce #2 and he is green.  Bob & Doe are torturing poor Lucy.

Here's Lucy heading into Petsmart.  She was very excited.  There's so much to smell there.

Lucy is checking out the rats!

I love her listening ears!   Isn't she just sooo pretty??!!

This one is for all those Hello Kitty fans out there!

This was spotted as we were coming back from Destin Commons.  I know I have one particular "Hello Kitty" guy out there that will want one for his jeep!

Not sure...am I sad or mad or BOTH!

Just shot this picture of the demise of my (?) sea star.  Someone had brought it up to the campground.  Its broken and dead now!  I just can't believe someone would be so cruel.  I know those who read this blog would never intentionally harm a living critter and probably are now equally sad, mad, or more than likely feeling both emotions.  The sea star is being preserved to use as an educational example of what NOT to do with a living creature.

New Discoveries

Here are my latest beach discoveries...

This is a long-wristed hermit crab who has taken up residence in a Florida cerith shell.  He was quite feisty with me, not wanting to be held way up high above the water. He has a pincher claw, but didn't hurt me, just waved his claw and legs around to get my attention.  I put him back in the shallow water so he could continue on his way.

This is a Luidia alternata sea star.  It is an echinoderm, which in Greek means "spiny skinned".  This guy has no heart, no brain, and no eyes.  It has many tube feet on its underside that are its way to slowly travel on the ocean floor.  As with most sea stars, this guy can regenerate severed arms.  (I couldn't find this sea star in any of my books, had to surf the web to make an identification.)

I just love the impression it made in the sand with its tube feet.

I love sharing what I find on the beach with you.  I'm learning what they are "technically" named instead of, " Hey, I found a crab!" or "Wow, look at this starfish!"  I'm off to the beach for more exploring!
